Color for us, when designing, is the result of a previous study and a concept. A concept that works as the guiding thread of each project.
It is the tool we use to transfer to the space the story we want to tell and the feeling we want to generate. We choose it by observing and comparing. Seeing how it works as a whole and not as an isolated element. Color can be contrast but it can also be homogeneity.
“Choosing Colours should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colours have meaning and function”. Verner Panton
Color changes the way we perceive spaces. A place can seem higher, lower, narrower or wider depending on the combination of colors, the brightness of these and the place where we are going to apply it.
Thanks to the color we can highlight certain elements in an interior. For example, if we want the furniture in our design to attract more attention than the environment, we will create contrast with it. If, on the other hand, we are interested in drawing attention to the surrounding elements in our project, whether they are architectural or textile, we will make them the ones that have the predominant note.
We can create a completely homogeneous space, without contrastswhere the same color envelops the space. However, in this case, we could use different shades of the same color, using textures or materials that complement the space. This would no longer be so homogeneous and could have different readings. The same color does not mean the same material.
When we talk about emotion, once again we go back to the concept. Depending on the rythm at which we want users to experience a space, we will choose one color or another. In the same way, if we want to incite relaxation or well-being,, we will opt for example for green colors, while vivid colors such as orange will keep us active and dynamic.
All this of course depends a lot on the tone of the colors, how vivid they are, the light in the space, the dimensions, etc. What is clear to us is that each color plays its role and we as designers are fortunate to be able to use them and tell stories through them.
