Dum Dum: Dumpling restaurant design in Madrid
DUM DUM, the new venture from two young entrepreneur brothers, offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience built around reinvented dumplings. Far from traditional Asian cooking, DUM DUM packs familiar flavours into one surprising bite.
The restaurant sits at Calle Blasco de Garay 10 and measures just 30 m². It combines a central bar with a kitchen visible from the entrance. The dark wood floor and brick walls, painted in a single colour, bring texture and warmth to the space.
From the start, we wanted to make the most of what the space already offered. We kept the original floor and designed a space that defies conventional aesthetic categories. The design is almost minimalist, yet full of personality and iconic moments.
Concepts like "small" and "compact" guide the scale of the furniture and the layout. At the same time, "mystery", "surprise" and "translucent" come through in the dividing elements — like an acoustic entrance hall in cellular polycarbonate with venetian blinds that offer glimpses of the interior, sparking curiosity.
The colour palette stays neutral so the green — complementary to Dum Dum's corporate red — can stand out with real strength.
We used stainless steel in the lighting and fittings to connect the design to the world of the kitchen, a material that's everywhere in that world.
The central bar, the high table and the bench are finished in a matte porcelain mosaic with smaller-than-usual tiles, giving the space a distinctive, refined touch.
The sound of the name "Dum Dum" also finds its way into the design through doubled elements — round wall lights on the façade and LED strips arranged in pairs invite guests to discover the essence of the place.
