This 35m² kitchen renovation in Madrid completely transforms the way the home is lived in, filling the space with light and giving the essentials their place back.
This full renovation of a 35m² kitchen, laundry and pantry started from a space with an outdated layout, full of visual barriers and dominated by darkness. Textured walls painted sandy yellow, very little storage, poor lighting, and a toilet being used as a junk room.
The design responds to the habits and tastes of the client and her greyhound, built around a concept inspired by jasmine flowers, the owner's favourite. The feelings this element of nature conveys — freshness, brightness, delicacy — are carried through into the space.
This way, the kitchen and the home's main hallway flow into one another, so you feel the sense of space the moment you walk in. The green landscape outside also floods into the interior through the chosen colour palette.
All the smaller accessories and decorative elements are in stainless steel. Natural wood, warm and full of history, sits alongside the new, functional porcelain tile.
The decoration pays tribute to the owner's antique furniture. We rescued the kitchen's old rush-seated chairs and had them fully restored by SAGON CESTERÍA, and used the opportunity to bring in several of the client's old storage pieces too. The rest of the furniture and lighting was chosen carefully so that everything would speak the same language.
The decorative light fixtures were custom-made with linen shades at one of Juliette and Rebeka's favourite shops in the La Latina neighbourhood; OLOFANE.
The result is a space in balance between old and new, between the memories already made and the ones still to come.
